Universities UK International (UUKi) will host four webinars related to the UK’s exit from the European Union.

Full details of the sessions are below.  Alternatively, please see the UUKi Event Calendar for 2020_21.

1. End of the transition period: What do universities need to know to prepare?
Universities UK International and the UK Science and Innovation Network would like to welcome you back for another webinar on the UK’s departure from the EU. In our last instalment in February we discussed what the Withdrawal Agreement and the transition period meant for higher education institutions. That transition period is coming to an end and over the next few weeks, the likely path ahead will become clearer. This webinar will walk through the different possible scenarios that are emerging, and most importantly, what universities in the UK and in the EU need to do by the end of the year to prepare for any outcome.

The live webinar will air on 28 October from 14.00 – 15.00 GMT. Please register here.

2. Immigration rules in the UK from 1 January onwards: What universities and students need to know
Harry Anderson, Policy Manager, Universities UK
From 01 January 2021, the UK’s new points-based immigration system will come into effect. In this webinar we will give an overview of the key changes coming into effect before running through some examples of what the new rules mean in practice for researchers; EU students coming the UK for full degree courses; short term study mobility and work placements through Erasmus+; as well as the situation for those in the UK wanting to study abroad.

The webinar will air live on Tuesday 3 November, from 14.00 – 14.45 GMT. You can register here.

3. Preparing for UK domestic alternatives to Horizon Europe
Peter Mason, Policy Manager, Europe (Research and Innovation), Universities UK International
The transition period is coming to an end and there is still much uncertainty about the future relationship between the UK and the EU. This webinar aims to help higher education institution prepare for the possible scenario in which there is no negotiated Free Trade Agreement between the UK and the EU by 1 of January 2021. What does this mean for running Horizon 2020 project? What does this mean for UK’s association to Horizon Europe? What kind of domestic alternatives are being develop? And most importantly, what do higher education institutions need to do to prepare?

The webinar will air live on Wednesday 4 November, from 14.00 – 15.00 GMT. You can register here.

4. Erasmus+ and preparing for the end of the transition period
Anne-May Janssen, Head of European Engagement, Universities UK International
The transition period is coming to an end and there is still much uncertainty about the future relationship between the UK and the EU. This webinar aims to help higher education institutions prepare for the end of the transition period in case we have a no-negotiated outcome. We will discuss what will be put in place instead of Erasmus+, whether it is needed as a short-term bridge to full association or a long-term solution to non-association. We will summarise what has already been confirmed about the domestic alternative, discuss some of the open questions, and consider the timetable for implementation.

The webinar will air live on Thursday 5 November, from 14.00 – 15.00 GMT. You can register here.
