German Culture and the Basic Law – Keeping your Basic Rights!

The German constitution, the Grundgesetz (Basic Law), guarantees everyone’s basic rights in Germany. Do you know your basic rights? During the Covid-19-Pandemic from March 2020 until yet the discussion about the basic rights structures the public and even private life. Since 24th of March 2022 the Russian War against Ukraine influences the debate about German and European basic rights. The Federal Constitutional Court delivered a number of important judgements concerning basic rights. Therefore, this introductory workshop in English and German will focus on those rights in the opening part of the Grundgesetz which may affect your personal life. The Basic Law already has a strong effect on German Culture and the way of public discussions.

Workshop skills:
• Reading the beginning articles of the Basic Law in German and English.
• Discussing this articles.
• Historical background of the Basic Law.
• Historical background of basic rights.
• Gender equality.

IMPORTANT: These seminars are paid for through student grants so you can use them free of charge. Please only register if you will definitely take part. If you register for a seminar and are absent without an excuse on the day of the event, you will be blocked from attending all future seminars.
