LASERION consists in two years multidisciplinary project, aiming at design and characterization of carbon-based support materials for photo(electro)catalysis. The goal of the materials development is to expand the applications of conventional carbon materials by integrating two-dimensional support materials by anchoring smaller chemical compounds (referred to as “antennas”) for a variety of purposes. The proposed carbon-inorganic interface materials pursue to advance the fundamental understanding and facilitate the rational design of advanced energy materials.

I choose FAU because

FAU has been ranked among the top 100 worldwide in Materials Science and is one of the top 5 Chemical Engineering institutions in Germany, demonstrating its exceptional international reputation and research standing. With three Nobel laureates in Chemistry, FAU boasts a truly unique innovation culture. The university’s campus is situated in a thriving technological hub, surrounded by leading German research institutions like Max Planck and Fraunhofer Institutes, creating a dynamic intellectual environment. For those who value collaboration, like myself, FAU is the perfect place to foster scientific partnerships while pursuing cutting-edge materials research. I am particularly excited to work with renowned electrochemist Professor Schmuki, who is known for his groundbreaking work in TiO2 nanotubes and single-atom catalysis. Overall, FAU offers a superb environment for conducting research and developing innovative materials that have the potential to drive the technological transfer of existing technologies toward a sustainable circular economy.
