My research areas

My research interests are in the broad area of wireless communications. Particularly I focus on optical wireless communications, i.e., the use of modulated light to transfer information. On top of that, I am also interested in the design and optimization of next generation wireless networks.

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece

Host research group

I am hosted by Professor Robert Schober, Chair for Digital Communications (IDC), Department Electrical Engineering at FAU.

Research period at the Faculty of Engineering, FAU

01.06.2023 – 01.06.2025

What is the focus of your research during your visit?

The focus of my research during my visit is developing and simulating novel optical wireless communication systems for ultra-high data rates and for highly energy efficient communication networks. On top of that, I am interested in wireless power transfer methods and their application to enable zero energy devices, i.e., internet-of-things devices with no need for conventional tethered charging or battery replacements. Finally, I am interested in enabling programmable wireless environments through the use of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces which allow for the manipulation of the propagation of electromagnetic waves.

I choose FAU because

I choose Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg because it is consistently one of the top public universities in Germany for engineering. On top of that my Humboldt fellowship is supervised by Prof. Robert Schober, Head of the Institute for Digital Communications, who is among the top researchers in the world in the broad area of wireless communications with an outstanding academic profile. I believe during my time at FAU, his valuable comments and insights will allow me to improve the quality of my work and inspire me to devise new methods to advance wireless communications to new levels.
